For World Antibiotic Awareness Week, the SEIMC (Sociedad Española de Enfermedades Infecciosas y Microbiología Clinica) invited Dr. Pilar Retamar to write an opinion piece on the REVERSE Project and potential synergistic relationship between infection control and programs for the optimization of antimicrobial use to prevent antibiotic resistance. 

Dr. Retamar is an infectious disease physician at University Hospital Virgen Macarena, Seville, Spain and an integral part of the antibiotic stewardship work package for the REVERSE project.
